Frequently asked questions
How much is shipping, and how long does it take?
Free shipping across Canada on every order, with no minimum. Delivery times vary by item and are estimates: most items arrive in 7–15 business days, and a few take up to 20. Each product page shows its own estimate. Delivery times are estimates, not guarantees, and can run longer during holidays or bad weather. Items in one order may arrive separately. Some items have lithium batteries and may only ship by ground.
What is your return policy?
You can return items within 30 days of delivery. If an item arrives damaged or defective, we replace or refund it and cover return shipping. For change-of-mind returns, the item must be unused and in its original packaging, and you pay return shipping. See Shipping & Returns.
Which payment methods do you accept?
You can pay by card through Stripe's secure checkout or with PayPal. On products where checkout is open, the Pay with card and Pay with PayPal buttons open checkout in a new tab. Products without those buttons show Checkout coming soon.
What kind of gear do you sell?
Practical gear for Canadian winters and power outages: lights, radios, warmers, winter car-kit basics and a few host-ready kitchen sets. Specs on each product page come from our suppliers.
Where is Ironfrost Gear based?
We are a small online store based in Ontario, Canada. We are online only, with no storefront, and our products ship to you from our fulfilment partners.
Do you ship everywhere in Canada?
We ship within Canada only, and shipping is free on every order with no minimum. Each product page shows its own delivery estimate in business days.
What should be in a power outage kit in Canada?
Canada's guidance is to be ready for at least 72 hours: about 4 litres of water per person per day, non-perishable food, a crank or battery radio, flashlights or a lantern, spare batteries and a power bank, a first-aid kit, medications, cash and copies of documents. See our power outage checklist.
What should I keep in my car for a Canadian winter?
A shovel, snow brush and scraper, sand or kitty litter, booster cables, a flashlight or headlamp, blankets, warm clothes, water, snacks, hand warmers and a charged phone. See our winter car checklist.
Does the crank radio pick up Environment Canada Weatheradio?
Weatheradio Canada was shut down in March 2026, so no radio can receive it now. Our crank radio's AM and FM bands still pick up local news and emergency updates.
How do I contact you?
Please email us at ironfrostgear@outlook.com with your question or order number.
How long should a power outage kit last in Canada?
The Government of Canada recommends being able to look after yourself for at least 72 hours. After the March 2025 ice storm, some Ontario households were without power for more than a week, so more is better if you have the space.
How much water do I need for a 72-hour kit?
About 4 litres per person per day, so 12 litres per person for 72 hours, plus extra for pets.
How long will food stay safe in the fridge and freezer?
Keep the doors closed. The Government of Canada says a full freezer keeps food frozen for 24 to 48 hours if the door stays closed. Throw out perishable food that has warmed up. When in doubt, throw it out.
Can I use a barbecue, camp stove or generator indoors?
No. Fuel-burning barbecues, camp stoves and generators produce carbon monoxide. Use them only outdoors, never in a garage, basement or shed, and keep generators at least 6 m from buildings. Make sure your carbon monoxide alarm has a battery backup.
What should be in a winter car emergency kit in Canada?
Transport Canada and CAA suggest a small shovel, snow brush and ice scraper, sand or kitty litter, booster cables, a flashlight, warning triangles, a first-aid kit, blankets, extra socks, gloves and a tuque, water, snacks and hand and foot warmers.
Should I stay in my car if I get stuck in a snowstorm?
Usually yes. If you are not at risk of being hit by other traffic, stay inside for shelter, keep the tailpipe clear of snow, open a window slightly for fresh air, run the engine as little as possible and use the dome light rather than the headlights.
Why does my tire pressure light come on in winter?
Cold air takes up less space, so tire pressure drops when the temperature falls. Check and top up your tires when they are cold, using the pressure on the driver's door sticker.
How long can power be out after an ice storm in Ontario?
It can be days or longer. In the March 28 to 30, 2025 ice storm, more than 600,000 Hydro One customers lost power, and some households in central Ontario, including around Orillia, were without power for more than a week.
What should I do in the 48 hours before freezing rain?
Charge phones, power banks, lanterns and rechargeable batteries, fill water containers, fill the gas tank, check your 72-hour kit, get cash, and bring in or tie down anything loose outside.
How far should I stay from a downed power line?
Stay at least 10 metres back, about the length of a school bus, assume it is live, and call your local utility or 911.
